On April 8, 2014, Microsoft will no longer offer security patches, system updates and support for the Windows XP operating system.

While Windows XP will continue to function after this date, any business that uses the operating system will face increased vulnerability to security breaches. Likewise, MPS&A applications currently running on Windows XP will continue to function after the deadline, but they will face the same security risks as the XP operating system. Even though your workstation clients will no longer receive security patches during this migration, your server will continue to receive security patches where your data is stored and protected.

In summary, we recommend using Windows 7 Professional for all workstations including POS registers.  If you choose to continue using Windows XP, be aware of the increased risks associated with security and compliance.

What does this mean for your business?

  • MPS&A will continue to provide limited customer support for Windows XP-based systems, registers and devices during this migration.
  • You should upgrade all applicable workstations, registers, operating systems and devices to Windows 7 Professional to continue to receive security updates, system patches and support from Microsoft.
  • Workstation upgrades may require the installation of additional memory to meet Windows 7 Professional minimum processor requirements.

What do you need to do?

  • If you use MPS&A hardware, we will help you upgrade your operating system either through a workstation swap, a memory upgrade, an operating system upgrade and/or a device upgrade.
  • If you are due for a server upgrade in 2014, we can work with you to update your client workstations during the server upgrade.
  • To accommodate your schedule, you can select a desired month to receive your upgrade. Navigate to the Transition Scheduling Tool website to sign up today. Please be advised that there are a limited number of upgrade slots available per month. Upgrade requests will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • If you supply your own hardware for your business, you will need to make arrangements to upgrade your system to Windows 7 Professional.
