On April 8, 2014, Microsoft will no longer offer security patches, system updates and support for the Windows XP operating system.
While Windows XP will continue to function after this date, any business that uses the operating system will face increased vulnerability to security breaches. Likewise, MPS&A applications currently running on Windows XP will continue to function after the deadline, but they will face the same security risks as the XP operating system. Even though your workstation clients will no longer receive security patches during this migration, your server will continue to receive security patches where your data is stored and protected.
In summary, we recommend using Windows 7 Professional for all workstations including POS registers. If you choose to continue using Windows XP, be aware of the increased risks associated with security and compliance.
