Recently, Microsoft issued a Windows patch that places a new icon within the system tray. This icon is named “Get Windows 10” and is located at the bottom of the Windows desktop screen (see below). Clicking on this icon allows the user to register to receive a free Windows 10 upgrade, scheduled to be released on July 29, 2015.
Please be advised that the Windows 10 operating system is NOT SUPPORTED by MPS&A for its products and services. Customers SHOULD NOT click on the icon to register for the Windows 10 upgrade.
Customers should be aware that there is no downgrade path from Windows 10 to Windows 7 - the operating system currently supported by MPS&A. Therefore, any computer that is upgraded to Windows 10 will require a complete system rebuild to restore Windows 7. This means that the new operating system would need to be completely removed from your computer in order to reload the supported operating system.
This website provides access to a script that will remove the Windows 10 icon from your system tray and prevent the system from launching an automatic upgrade to Windows 10 when the release becomes available.
Installation Instructions:
If you have any questions about the business impact of upgrading to the Windows 10 operating system, please contact MPS&A Customer Support or your Account Representative.
