We asked our Customer Support team to select a few pointers that will help you get the most out of your Pharmaserv system and peripherals. These tips and tricks are as follows:
1. Printer Damage Caused by Over-Filling the Printer Tray
Has a broken printer and/or printer tray disrupted your business operations recently? In most cases, this damage is caused by inadvertently filling the paper/label tray beyond the limit for which it was designed.
When a printer tray is over-filled and inserted into the printer drawer, the pickup arm is forced up above its designed limit, causing it to break. If the pickup arm does not break due to over-filling, the printer rollers are still likely to bind, causing a “242 paper jam error.”
MPS&A Technical Services has begun placing a sticker in the printer tray that warns the user: FILLING ABOVE THIS LINE WILL CAUSE PERMANENT DAMAGE.
You can also help minimize this problem by reminding your staff not to fill printer trays beyond their designed limit.
2. Adding a New Carrier in Pharmaserv
How to Add a Carrier Using the Import Function:
- In Rx Processing, click on the Carrier icon.
- In the BIN field, enter the BIN # for the new third party.
- Change the source field to Carriers to Import and click Retrieve.
- If there is a match to the BIN, highlight it and click on the Import button in the lower left corner of the screen. Continue to Step 6.
- If there is not a match, skip to the manual instructions below.
- After you click Import, an import carrier window will display.
- Give the new carrier a Carrier Code (up to 5 characters).
- Set the protocol to NCPDP D.0.
- If there is a PCN on the patient’s card, select it from the drop-down menu or type it into the field. If there isn’t a PCN, highlight the PCN bar, press the spacebar 5 times, and then type UDL. (This is a default PCN.)
- In the price schedule bar, select Default, unless the pharmacy has a set schedule for its carriers.
- For the Copay Schedule, type $0.
- Click Save and the carrier is now created.
How to Add a Carrier Manually:
- In Rx Processing, click on the Carrier icon.
- Click on the New button at the bottom of the screen.
- Give the new carrier a Carrier Code (up to 5 characters) and name it as well.
- In the price schedule bar, select Default, unless the pharmacy has a set schedule for its carriers.
- For the Copay Schedule, type $0.
- Click the Billing button on the far left of the screen. (If a pop-up window prompts you to save your changes, click Yes.)
- Set the Rx and Cognitive rows to CAM.
- Click on the Cam Parms button in the lower left corner of the screen.
- At the top of the screen under Format, select NCPDP D.0. (This will change the Error Code Matrix as well.)
- Click in the Network bar and type the Carrier Code that was created for this carrier. Then press Tab.
- A window will appear that states the network ID doesn’t exist. Click Yes to create it. This will take you to the Edit Network window.
- In the Phone # row, enter the modem # for the pharmacy’s switching company (e.g., RelayHealth).
- Enter the BIN and PCN in the corresponding rows. If there isn’t a PCN, highlight the PCN bar, press the spacebar 5 times, and then type UDL. (This is a default PCN.)
- Click Save and this will take you back to the Cam Parms window.
- In the upper right corner of the screen under Profit Tolerance, change the Basis to None.
- Click Save and the carrier is now created.
